Hello there…
About Yorkiefood
Yorkiefood is an independent, reader-first guide to feeding Yorkshire Terriers well — from “how much should my Yorkie eat?” to “can she have a bite of this?” We built it because tiny dogs leave almost no margin for error, and the advice online is often vague, contradictory, or written to sell something.
Our mission
We want to be the single most careful, honest resource for feeding a Yorkie. Yorkshire Terriers are small enough that a few extra calories a day, one unsafe snack, or a portion measured by eye instead of by weight can matter more than it would for a large dog. Our job is to translate the best available veterinary and nutrition science into plain, practical guidance you can actually use at the kitchen counter — and to be clear about the limits of that guidance.
How we work
Every page starts from authoritative sources: regulatory bodies like the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine, poison-control centres such as the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center and the Pet Poison Helpline, the Merck Veterinary Manual, professional bodies like WSAVA and AAHA, peer-reviewed nutrition research, university extension programs, and the USDA nutrient database for food composition. We cite those sources on the page so you can check the evidence for yourself rather than take our word for it.
We are careful researchers and editors — not veterinarians. That distinction is the most important thing to understand about this site. We read the literature closely and represent it faithfully, but we cannot examine your dog, and general information is never a substitute for advice from a professional who can. Independent veterinary review of our content is a goal we take seriously and are transparent about not having completed on every page yet; when a page has been reviewed by a credentialed professional, we will say so plainly and name them.
To learn exactly how we source, write, and correct our work, see our editorial policy. To meet the people behind the words, visit the editorial team page.
How we stay independent
Yorkiefood is affiliate-supported. Some of the product links on the site are affiliate links, and if you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That support keeps the site free and lets us spend the time research deserves. It does not buy influence over what we recommend. Commissions are never a ranking factor, we show one honest drawback for every product we suggest, and we do not publish fabricated prices, ratings, or reviews. You can read the full picture in our recommendation methodology and our affiliate disclosure.
A word of caution
Please treat everything here as educational, not medical. Our calculators produce estimates and starting points, not prescriptions, and small dogs can go downhill quickly when something is wrong. If your Yorkie is unwell or may have eaten something dangerous, contact your veterinarian right away. See our medical disclaimer for the details and emergency contacts.
We are a new, small, independent site, and we would rather grow slowly and honestly than quickly and loudly. If you spot something we got wrong, please tell us — corrections make the whole site better. You can reach us any time through our contact page.
