Pumpkin Spoon Topper

A spoonful of plain canned pumpkin stirred into your Yorkie's regular food for a little fiber and flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon per servingPlain canned pumpkin100% pumpkin puree only - NOT pumpkin pie filling, which contains sugar and spices.

Steps

  1. Open a can of plain 100% pumpkin puree and double-check the label says only pumpkin, with no sugar, salt, or spices.
  2. Scoop a level teaspoon and stir it gently into your Yorkie's regular complete meal.
  3. Serve right away while it is fresh and at room temperature.
  4. Cover and refrigerate the rest of the can for later servings.

Storage

Refrigerate leftover pumpkin in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or freeze in small teaspoon-sized portions for up to 2 months.

Portion guidance

For a 4-7 lb Yorkie, a teaspoon or less stirred into the regular meal is plenty. Toppers count toward the ~10% daily treat budget, so trim the base meal a touch on days you add it. Introduce pumpkin slowly, since too much fiber at once can loosen stools.
