Baked Sweet Potato Chews
Thin, single-ingredient baked sweet potato slices that make a naturally chewy occasional treat.
Ingredients
- 1 mediumSweet potatoWashed and scrubbed; no oil, salt, or seasoning of any kind.
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 250 F (120 C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Scrub the sweet potato and slice it into thin rounds or strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Lay the slices in a single layer on the tray with no oil or seasoning.
- Bake low and slow for 2-3 hours, flipping halfway, until chewy (longer for crispier chews).
- Let the chews cool completely before serving, and cut into small pieces for a tiny mouth.
Storage
Store chewy slices in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 week; fully dried, crisp chews keep about 2 weeks in a sealed jar. Freeze for longer storage.
Portion guidance
Half a chew to one chew is a reasonable treat for a 4-7 lb Yorkie. They still count toward the ~10% daily treat budget, so factor them in and always supervise chewing to prevent choking.

The Yorkiefood Editorial Team
We research Yorkshire Terrier feeding from regulatory bodies, veterinary manuals, poison-control centres, and peer-reviewed nutrition literature, then explain it plainly. We are careful researchers, not veterinarians — our pages cite their sources so you can check the evidence yourself, and we always defer to your own vet for your dog.
